Saturday 20 January
I was lucky enough to be in Cairns during their festival - admittedly the 20th was the last day, but there was the parade followed by fireworks.
I didn't even know it was on except someone at the Woolshed mentioned it and said the parade was at 8 o'clock.
So I made my way down just in time to see the last few floats and people in the parade.
The Cairns Festival was established in 2002 and is held annually in September.

The State Emergency Services
I have had to lighten this considerably so it isn't the best photo in the world.
The Local Constabulary
Members of the Queensland Police Force came rolling down in their cars. I can assure you, everybody was very well behaved!
Fireworks:
After this, we all headed down in the direction of the Esplanade where the fireworks display was to be held. They were sent up from some contraption somewhere in the water. Fortunately I managed to find a space and sat on the curved wall - legs dangling water swirling below. After a good 30 odd minute wait, the show began.
Let the show begin:
The Grande Finale
If you enlarge ths photo and look closely, you will see the two boats in the water where the fireworks display were sent from. I was awed at the fantastic lights, gizmos and wonderful shapes. It was as good as anything I'd seen before and better than some.
Palm Tree
Walking slowly along the Esplanade, I spotted this lovely palm.
In the Esplanade Water
I just had to dunk my feet in the water and have a photo!

This is about my holiday from Cairns to
Laura, on the lower Cape York Peninsula from
September 2008 to October 2008. Going from Melbourne to Cairns to Port Douglas, to Cooktown and Laura, Cape Tribulation and all the bits in between, and finally back to Cairns for my flight home.
Cheers.
