Tropical Far North Queensland

This is about my holiday from Cairns to
Laura, on the lower Cape York Peninsula from
September 2008 to October 2008. Going from Melbourne to Cairns to Port Douglas, to Cooktown and Laura, Cape Tribulation and all the bits in between, and finally back to Cairns for my flight home.
Cheers.

5. Cairns - The Woolshed

Saturday 20 September

The Woolshed

Located at 24 Shields Street, Cairns. the Woolshed is the most popular place in town and a favourite with the backpacker crowd.
At the YHA reception, they have vouchers for meal deals, one of them being the $10 meal deal at the Woolshed - two courses plus a free drink - beer, wine or soft drink. I went down with another girl and for the main I had Rost lamb, baked potato and steamed vegies. For the dessert I went for the chocolate cake with cream and ice-cream. You hand your voucher in at the $10 window but you have to go upstairs to collect your free drink. They also offered $5 backpacker meals (you hand your voucher in at the $5 window) - rather unappetising and very small serves. Very plain looking spaghetti.

The owners of the place are smart. Although you can buy drinks downstairs, you have to go upstairs for your freebie because the nightclub is upstairs and that's where the action is.

Everything you've ever heard of the Woolshed is true - wet T shirt contests, and it's one of the best pick-up places around. The saying is "If you can't get laid at the Woolshed, you won't get laid anywhere."
